« Being free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others »Nelson Mandela
R4C produces films firmly rooted in situations where FGM / C and early marriages are practiced.
R4C cooperates with African associations and production companies for local organizations to be the protagonists and actors of change in their own communities.
This methodology has allowed local communities to develop self-awareness so that they can identify issues and come up with original solutions by themselves. It also allows R4C to tailor the message in the respect of local sensitivities and languages.
The film “The Call of Diégoune” illustrates this approach. It shows how the Diola, by respecting their values, have decided to collectively abandon the practice of cutting. The abandonment of cutting is wanted and understood collectively as the result of both dialogue and debate. The film is thus the story of a cohesive community which expresses its identity as one voice.
